Heritage of a Master - AI Meets Vangelis
0 replies

The world lost a New Age legend when the composer Vangelis succumbed to Covid-19 in May of 2022. While his final compositions that he was working on have now been released years later, any further works may well be locked away forever until his estate releases them.

However, is it possible for Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) to recreate the distinctive 'Vangelis' sound? One person has been attempting to do just that.

"Heritage of a Master" is an album of music generated through A.I. prompts in an attempt to replicate Vangelis' electronic era of music.

Could it fool Vangelis fans? We may never know. As a Vangelis fan myself, it sounds fairly decent. If I did not know that this was AI, I'd think that it would be one of his works from the early 1990s.

We will never know what Vangelis would have composed had he lived past his ailment. "Juno to Jupiter" was his final album but, even before then, he was slowing down as a musician.

Until his estate opens up the proverbial vault and release some of his many (supposedly) lost albums, we only have efforts such as these. I, for one, welcome our new A.I. overlords.
